How to Use the Lasso Tool To use the lasso, simply press the ‘L’ key ( Photoshop shortcut) on your keyboard, move your mouse to an area on the image, then trace around the area you want to alter. After editing the first image, students are prompted to complete a second exercise with an additional image (also provided), using the same steps from the first exercise, but adapting them to accommodate the new image. If you do a Google search for Lasso Tool in Gimp you will receive a few links and the first link in the search is from GIMPs documentation that shows the Free Selection Tool. I print these steps as handouts and distribute them to my students so that they can follow along when I demonstrate the lesson and then work at their own pace during independent work time.
